Windows 98 build 1702 is a pre-Release Candidate 1 build of Windows 98. The timebomb is significantly longer than most development builds of Windows as it is set to expire on 1 April 2001, over three years after its compilation. This extended timebomb lasted all the way until 1723.4.

- The gradient title bars are now enabled by default again.
- Updated the Active Desktop background colors to a darker shade of blue.
- The boot screen has been finalized.
- Microsoft NetMeeting 2.1 has been updated to the final build.
- Microsoft Chat has been updated to version 2.1.
- Entered product keys are now checked for validity. This is the earliest available build to contain and use
pidgen.dll
. - The watermark is now disabled by default.
