GEOS (also known as GeoWorks, NewDeal Office and Breadbox Ensemble) is an operating system released in 1990, which is made for older PCs that have issues running modern versions of Microsoft Windows. The GUI (after the launch of Windows 95) tries to replicate some characteristics of Windows interface. GEOS requires a DOS to load itself.

An 8-bit version for the Commodore 64 and Apple II had preceeded GeoWorks when it first released for the Commodore 64 in 1986, later receiving versions for other platforms.[1]

The initial release of AOL for DOS utilized a stripped-down GEOS interface.
